While online courses through Coursera, Code Academy, Udacity, Udemy and others have gained popularity recently, one San Francisco education startup is breaking the model. Bloc is a 12-week online apprenticeship designed to teach the fundamentals of Web development, using a mentor for guidance. Students pay a fee ranging from $4,250 to $6,000, depending on the repayment plan. An online mentor provides weekly one-on-one counseling and helps overcome academic or technical hurdles.
