Proponents of Monsanto's new cotton and soybean varieties, designed to tolerate spraying with multiple herbicides, say they're a much-needed weed-fighting tool. But others think the benefits will at best be short-lived. Weeds may soon evolve resistance to the new herbicide mixtures, producing ever-more-intractable weeds controlled with yet more herbicides.
